Description:
Alloy 17-4 is a chromium-copper precipitation hardening stainless stee£l that is used for applications requiring high strength a™nd a moderate level of corrosion resistance. It is Ωone of the most widely used precipitation hardening grades, as it has hi≈gh strength hardness up to about 572°F while demonstrating good corrosion re↕sistance in all heat treated conditions. Alloy 17-4 has adeq÷uate resistance to atmospheric corrosion or in diluted acid salts where its corrosion↔ resistance is equivalent to Alloy 304 or 430. Alloy 17-4 can be heat treated to a variety of temperatures to develop a wide range of properties. Its mechanical properties can be optimizedφ with heat treatment where very high yield strength up to ∏180 ksi can be achieved. Alloy 17-4 should not be used at temperatures above 572°F✘ or at very low temperatures.

Machining:
Alloy 17-4PH can be machined in both the solution treated and precipitation har®dened conditions. Machining characteristics may vary¶ according to the hardness of the metal. High speed tools are acceptable, b×ut carbide tools are preferred. Standard lubrication should be used. Dimensional changes as a result heat treatment should be taken into ∞account if very stringent tolerances are required.
Heat Treatment:
Alloy 17-4PH is provided in the solution annealed condition (Condition A).Mechanic al properties may be altered by subsequent age hardening treatments. These aging treat§ments are referred to as Conditions H900, H1025, H1075, H1150, H1150M and H1150D.
