Information

Corrosion causes of 316L stainless steel

The surface of 316L stainless steel has an extremely thin and solid stable ch>romium-rich oxide film (protective film), which can prevent oxygen atoms from penetrating and ox±idizing the matrix, which is also the origin of its corrosion resistance. However, for some reason‌, this film will be continuously destroyed, and the oxygen atoms in the air or liqβuid will continue to separate, resulting in loose iron oxide, and the stainless steel surface will  rust.
1, stainless steel surface attached with other metal elements of dust  or metal particles and other foreign bodies, encountered moisture, these foreign bod↔ies and 316L stainless steel condensed water connected into a mi©cro battery, produce an electrochemical reaction, damage th✔e protective film of stainless steel surface, this is the electrochemical corrosion o≈f stainless steel.

2, stainless steel surface there is organic juice (such a©s soup, juice, etc.), when there is water oxygen scene, organic acids will be formed, ‍over a long time these organic acids will corrode stainless steel surface.

3, stainless steel surface there are some acid, alkali, saδlt liquid substances (such as lime water, alkali water, etc.), will lead to local corrosion of stainless steel surface.

4, in the polluted air (such as a large number of sulfide, carbon oxide, nitrogen oxide  atmosphere), in the stainless steel surface condensaεte, easy to generate acetic acid liquid point, sulfuric acid, nitric acid, which is the chemica♠l corrosion of stainless steel.

The above scenarios will lead to corrosion of the 316L stainless steel surface.
Cause of rust
Stainless steel will rust under certain conditions∑, although 316L stainless steel has natural resistan↔ce to atmospheric oxidation, that is, no rust characteristics, but also₹ in the environment containing acid, alkali, salt and o'ther corrosion resistance, that is, corrosion resist"ance. However, the corrosion resistance of 316L stainless steel var≈ies with its own chemical composition, mutual state, use conditions and the type of envir€onmental media.
Such as in a dry and clean atmosphere, the corrosioσn resistance of 304 stainless steel is absolutely great, but once in the coastal areπa, affected by the sea fog of concentrated salt, it is easy to rust, but >316 stainless steel is better. Therefore, stainless steel≤ is not resistant to corrosion and rust in any environment.
